Young Mi Britton, CNP
Biography
Young Mi Britton, CNP, is a talented primary care provider at the Mary Rutan Kenton Health Center, where she provides expert care to patients of all ages.
Growing up, Young Mi’s aspirations were greatly influenced by her father, who was enlisted in the Army. She calls herself an Army brat and says that from a young age, she knew she wanted to be a soldier. Her father told her that if she wanted to be in the military, she should aim to be an officer. Starting out, she applied for an Army ROTC scholarship, with the intention of eventually becoming a physical therapist. The Army told Young Mi that if she was interested in the medical field, they could offer her a nursing scholarship to the University of Texas at El Paso, where she eventually received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Young Mi commented, “I didn't know what nurses really did. I accepted the offer because school was going to be paid for, and I was going to be a soldier. I truly didn't know what nurses did! I didn't know anyone that was a nurse. It wasn't until an Army internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, not long after 9/11, during my senior year at UTEP, that I fell in love with nursing. I was assigned to intern with several Army nurses in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit providing care to our service members, many of which I will never forget their names or faces. Throughout my career in nursing, I have always jokingly said that I didn't pick nursing, it picked me, but within the last couple of years, I have come to the realization that God has led me down this path.”
Later in life, Young Mi decided to return to school at Kaplan University, where she received a Master of Science in Nursing in 2017 and she officially became a family nurse practitioner. With a specialty in primary care, Young Mi has a passion for helping those in her community along their healthcare journeys.
In her free time, Young Mi likes to spend time with her family. She also is an avid gardener in the spring and summer months. Often, she can be found reading a good book or working on an arts and craft project.
