Orthopedic rehabilitation is the treatment of injuries pertaining to the orthopedic system, which includes muscles, bones, joints, tendons, and ligaments. There are several different conditions and injuries which pertain to this system that can be treated in our clinic:
- Sprains/strains
- Tendinitis
- Arthritis
- Ligament tears
- Muscle tears
- Joint/muscle/tendon inflammation
- Joint/muscle stiffness
- Joint pain
Whether these injuries or conditions are the result of a traumatic event, work related incident, or chronic and repetitive use, your therapist will decide upon a course of treatment following an initial evaluation. There are a variety of treatment options available for orthopedic conditions with some of the main treatment options including therapeutic exercise, manual techniques, joint mobilization, pain modulation techniques, soft tissue mobilization, cervical and pelvic mechanical traction, kinesio tape, and stretching.
Examples of pain modalities include ultrasound, electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, and phonophoresis. Through these treatments and others, the ultimate goal is to improve function in daily life and at work. Other goals that we work towards are typically to decrease pain, improve strength, decrease swelling, and increase range of motion of the affected area. We also offer work conditioning for those individuals that need additional therapy to help them prepare to return to work and prevent future injuries.
