Osteoporosis is the most common bone disease in humans. Half of all females and 1/5 of all males will suffer from osteoporosis-related fractures in their lifetime. The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends regular weight-bearing and muscle strengthening exercises to reduce the risk of falls and fractures.
The Mary Rutan Hospital Physical Therapy staff has trained therapists to provide complete exercise recommendations:
- Weight-bearing aerobic activities.
- Posture training.
- Progressive resistance exercises for muscle and bone strengthening.
- Stretching for tight soft tissues and joints.
- Balance training.
