Liposuction Q&A

What is liposuction?

During liposuction, Dr. Avila makes a small incision in an area where you have excess fat, then uses suction to remove fat from the area.

However, Dr. Avila does much more than just remove fat from that specific area. She also reshapes the area, contouring it so you can get ideal results from your procedure. Your skin then molds itself to the new contours, helping you look your best.

Liposuction is not a weight-loss treatment. Instead, it's ideal for addressing problem areas of excess fat when you've already reached a stable weight.

What areas can liposuction treat?

Liposuction can be used to remove excess fat from virtually any problem area on your body. Dr. Avila uses it to slim and smooth the:

  • Abdomen
  • Arms
  • Thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Hips
  • Waist
  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Neck

If you have a stubborn area of fat that's getting in the way of your body goals, liposuction could be right for you.

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

There are a few key things that make you a good candidate for liposuction:

  • No preexisting health conditions. Because liposuction is a surgical procedure, it's important that you be in good health. Dr. Avila doesn't recommend it for those with a heightened likelihood of complications during surgery. If you have blood flow issues or a weak immune system, for example, you may not be a candidate.
  • Stable weight. Liposuction is not a replacement for weight loss. Instead, Dr. Avila offers this treatment to patients who are at a stable weight but have problem areas of excess fat they just can't seem to lose.
  • Healthy skin. After your procedure, your skin molds to the contours that Dr. Avila creates after removing excess fat. Healthy, elastic skin will give you smooth, tight results. Thin, rigid skin can leave the area looking saggy. Dr. Avila primarily recommends liposuction to patients with toned, healthy skin.
