Mary Rutan Hospital Welcomes Third General Surgeon, Vineeta Gahlawat, M.D.

Meet our newest full-time general surgeon, Dr. Vineeta Gahlawat. Covering broad-based general surgery, Dr. Gahlawat has experience in laparoscopic abdominal surgery for gall bladder, hernias, colon cancer, stomach and small intestine as well as anorectal disease, upper and lower endoscopy, thyroid surgery, chemotherapy port and peritoneal dialysis catheter placements, skin cancer and soft tissue infections. She is double board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care.

Dr. Gahlawat earned her medical degree at G.S.V.M. Medical College (India) and completed a residency in general surgery at University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She completed a fellowship in surgical critical care at SUNY Stony Brook Medicine in Stony Brook, New York. Dr. Gahlawat spent the past four years practicing in Northern Ohio at University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center before joining the team at Mary Rutan Hospital.

“I chose to become a physician to help patients and see them get better,” said Dr. Gahlawat. “General surgery is one of the fields in which we obtain instantaneous results and can see the immediate difference we have made in someone’s life. For me, this results in a special feeling and is extremely humbling.”

Mary Rutan Hospital now has three full-time Board-certified general surgeons providing surgical care to our community for not only elective but also emergency surgical needs, which are often not available in rural communities.

“Dr. Gahlawat joins Dr. Anthony Beisler and Dr. Harpreet Brar, our other talented general surgeons, to complete the general surgery team at Mary Rutan Hospital,” said Chad Ross, president and CEO. “We have a highly skilled surgical team, ready to serve the increasing demand for local surgical services.”

General surgeons are specialists trained to manage the spectrum of surgical conditions. Our Board-certified surgical team provides comprehensive, state of the art preoperative, intra-operative, and postoperative care. Additionally, our surgeons utilize the latest cutting-edge High Definition 4K technology in performing minimally invasive surgeries that significantly reduce the amount of time spent in the hospital and promote quicker recovery.
