The High Point Regional Cancer Center opened in 2004 and provides Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Laboratory services. Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art, quality cancer care to patients and families, close to home.

Medical Oncology Services at the High Point Regional Cancer Center Managed by the Ewing H. Crawfis Oncology Clinic
Mary Rutan Hospital has provided Medical Oncology services since the early 1980s. Since January of 2004, care continues at the High Point Regional Cancer Center. Patient treatments are individualized and Dr. Shakir Sarwar works closely with local physicians in providing quality cancer care in our community.

Dr. Shakir Sarwar, Board Certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine provides medical oncology services at the High Point Cancer Center. He is present at the Center every Tuesday and Thursday. Clinic hours are from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Chemotherapy is given from 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is available to be given on weekends as needed.

The Ewing H. Crawfis Oncology Clinic provides state-of-the-art treatment, education and follow-up for patients. The use of clinical trials is currently being explored and should be available soon. The Clinic is staffed by nurses who are trained in the administration of chemotherapy as well as patient and family education. In addition, our staff works on the coordination of referrals and consults on an as needed basis.

Radiation Oncology Services at the High Point Regional Cancer Center Managed by the Cancer Network of West Central Ohio
The Cancer Network of West Central Ohio provides Radiation Oncology services. Patient treatments are of multidisciplinary approach, including protocol and pathway sharing with the referring physician.

Dr. Syed Rahman, Board Certified Radiation Oncologist, provides the radiation oncology services at the High Point Regional Cancer Center and is present on Tuesdays. Radiation treatments are offered daily, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Emergency services are available after hours and on weekends by on-call staff.

The Cancer Center utilizes a Varian 2100C Linear Accelerator; IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy); CT Simulation; GE High Speed Advantage, RP, CT; Computerized Treatment Planning System and IMPAC (treatment verification and management system).

AT THE HIGH POINT REGIONAL CANCER CENTER

  • American Cancer Society and Resource Library
    The American Cancer Society provides an on-site Patient Navigator which assists in linking cancer patients, families, survivors and caregivers to resources and programs in the community. Susan Cronkleton is the current Patient Care Navigator.
  • Laboratory Services
    A Phlebotomist is available on-site for laboratory testing. All tests are processed at the Mary Rutan Hospital Laboratory. Dr. Robert Davis is the Medical Director of the MRH Laboratory. Hours of operation for laboratory draws are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Oncology and non-oncology patients are welcome to utilize the lab during these hours of operation.
  • Patient Support Group Meetings
    Support group meetings are currently held every other month and offer exposure to a variety of cancer related topics. The support groups are designed to offer patients, families and caregivers education, emotional support and an opportunity to meet others with similar concerns. Announcements regarding each meeting are posted in the local newspaper and on the radio station prior to each meeting. For questions call the Cancer Center.
