Mary Rutan Hospital Continues Expansion of Services and Facilities
As the year 2002 begins, Mary Rutan Hospital continues to enhance its services and facilities to meet the needs of our community. The completion of the new MRH Physical Rehabilitation Center is expected sometime this summer. The 10,854 square feet facility will include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Audiology Services. The Center will be located at 2200 Timber Trail, near the Hilliker YMCA. The total cost of the project is anticipated to be $1,600,000.
In 2000 the total number of patient visits to MRH therapy programs was in excess of 40,000, and in 2001, that number was up about 16 percent. While inpatient rehabilitation will continue to be at the hospital, approximately two-thirds of the patients in rehabilitation will be treated at the new Center.
“Our vision for the development of the Mary Rutan Physical Rehabilitation Center is to provide an environment within our community that facilitates healing, cultivates caring, endeavors to educate, and strives for economic well-being,” states Mandy Goble, Executive Vice President of Mary Rutan Hospital.
The Mary Rutan Physical Rehabilitation Project was initiated because of space constraints, which have prohibited the ability to add additional equipment and service modalities and to accommodate the growing number of patients. “Currently all our rehabilitation programs are scattered throughout the hospital. By combining all our services in one spacious building, we’ll offer a new standard of practice in the field of therapy and that’s what it is really about – providing progressive quality health care with a personal touch”, says Mrs. Goble.
In July of 2001 Mary Rutan Hospital opened its new diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) Lab and a broad range of non-invasive cardiac/vascular services.
MRH’s Cath Lab is the centerpiece of diagnostic services and can help diagnose heart problems – a service previously available only at larger hospitals.
In the past, patients had to travel out-of-town to have the catheterization procedure. This sometimes involved an overnight stay with added expenses of hotel and meals. When patients have their cardiac care at MRH, they are almost always discharged on the same day and recuperate at home. MRH has performed more than 100 caths in the past 6 months, since opening the Lab in July, 2001.
“Cardiac Cath is a common, relatively painless nonsurgical procedure,” says Dr. William Houser, cardiologist at MRH. “A long, flexible tub (catheter) is inserted into the blood vessel and gently guided toward the patient’s heart. Once the catheter is in place, X-rays, digital images and other measurements are made to help evaluate how well the heart is working” says Dr. Houser. “Watching a video monitor, we are able to determine if blood vessels in the patient’s heart are clogged, if the heart is pumping normally, if blood is flowing correctly, if the patient was born with heart problems, or if the patient needs heart surgery,” explains Dr. Houser.
Other areas of expansion and renovations within the last twelve months include Corporate Health Services and Fast Track.
Mary Rutan Corporate Health opened it newly renovated space within the hospital in June of 2001. Corporate Health Services is dedicated to improving the wellness of the individuals, the corporations and the communities that we serve by providing quality occupational medicine.
The new facility more than doubled in size, from 1,000 square feet in space to approximately 2,500 square feet. The area is complete with 5 exam rooms, a new drug screening area, and expanded office and patient areas.
Corporate Health Services offers an innovative approach in providing occupational healthcare to communities in West Central Ohio. Services provided include diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of occupational injuries and illness, controlled substance and alcohol testing, physical examinations, workers’ compensation case management, and education/wellness programs.
Fast Track Services was designed to treat those with less severe injury or illness. It is an extension of the Emergency Department and is meant for individuals that can be treated within one hour. Fast Track Services are provided during evening hours and weekends and is located in the newly renovated Corporate Health Services area located adjacent to the Emergency Department.
Mary Rutan Hospital continues to grow and enhance its services and facilities to meet the needs of the community that it serves to “Provide Progressive Quality Health Care With A Personal Touch”.
