Physical Therapy

rehab.jpg For patients recovering from a broken bone, industrial injury, sports injury, nerve damage, muscle strain or joint replacement, Mary Rutan Hospital Physical Rehabilitation Center provides state-of-the-art equipment and top-notch therapists.  Our hands-on treatment approach, with a favorable therapist-to-patient ratio, helps our patients achieve their maximum functionality.

Our comprehensive physical therapy services include the following programs:
 
  • Post-Surgical Rehabilitation - Specializing in shoulders, knee, hip, ankle, necks and backs.
  • Worker Reconditioning and Functional Capability Evaluations - Treatment of acute industrial injuries, reconditioning services for return-to-work and functional capacity evaluations.
  • Sports Medicine - Providing consultation and athletic performance enhancement to high school programs as well as treating a wide variety of athletic injuries.
  • Aquatic Rehabilitation - Our aquatic physical therapy program offers unique rehabilitation benefits at the YMCA.  This facility is conveniently located next to our Center.
  • Pain Management - Individualized programs are customized for each patient using a wide variety of treatment modalities, manual techniques and therapeutic exercise.
  • Pediatric Program -  Pediatric physical therapy involves examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, and intervention of children, aged birth through adolescence, who are experiencing functional limitations or disability due to trauma, a disorder, or disease.  The treatment consists of developing and integrating gross motor skills, balance, coordination, strength, flexibility, gait training and family education.
  • Vestibular Rehabilitation - For patients suffering from balance and dizziness disorders.



Sports Enhancement Training Program       

The Sports Enhancement Training Program, known as STAR, is an 18 session sport specific enhancement program that focuses on improving power, speed, agility, strength, and skill in all athletes.  This is accomplished by using a variety of age and skill appropriate training techniques.  These techniques may include plyometrics, resistance speed training, various agility tools, stength training, core strength  routines, Olympic and power lifts, medicine ball exercises, Vertimax routines and flexibility routines.

The program is designed for the competitive or recreational athlete.  The program is designed to improve sport performance and decrease the risk of injury.  This program is also an excellent way to prepare you for return to your sport after Physical Therapy.  

Directed by Ed Wisner, MS, ATC, CSCS.  Ed is a graduate of Capital University with a Bachelors Degree in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training.  In 1993, Ed earned his Master's Degree in Exercise Science from Miami University.  He spent 4 years at Miami University as an Assistant AthleticTrainer. Ed has over 10 years of sports performance training and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.  He also has over 15 years experience as a Certified Trainer.
